Abstract: The article explores the role of artificial intelligence in the eco-climate transition, highlighting the tension between its promises and its hidden costs. While machine learning algorithms can technically optimize energy distribution and support decarbonization, their development structurally requires significant resource consumption, with environmental effects that are difficult to overlook. The analysis of the European regulatory framework, particularly the AI Act, reveals both progress—through the inclusion of references to environmental protection—and significant gaps, given that concrete obligations for reporting and evaluation remain limited. The study concludes that a balance between innovation and sustainability cannot be achieved without the explicit integration of ecological criteria into regulation and without an interdisciplinary approach capable of harmonizing technological requirements with environmental imperatives.
